The National Science and Technology Council’s mandate is the promotion of Science and Technology for improved quality of life in Zambia.In implementing this mandate, the NSTC holds the Science week annually in commemoration of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, which falls on 10th November every year. The Science Week is held to celebrate the spirit of innovation in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and to sensitize the larger public about the role of science, technology and innovation in socio-economic development.The National Science week is characterized by an official launch speech by the minster of Technology and Science Hon. Felix Mutati MP which is aired on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).The highlight of the week is the annual Zambia Science Conference that brings together experts from various sectors with the aim to generate innovative and sustainable solutions that respond to real life challenges. The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) participated in the recent held National Robotics and Artificial Intelligence competition by the Zambia National STEM Foundation (ZNSF). A delegation from the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) of Ghana, visited the O.R. Tamba Africa Research Chairs Initiative (ORTARChI) at the University of Zambia UNZA. The visit was aimed at getting an update on the status various research projects currently been undertaken at Masters and PhD levels under the research chair.The delegation led by NSTC acting Executive Secretary Mr. Guest Mugala, was received by acting ORTARChI UNZA chair holder Professor Chanda.In welcoming the delegation Prof. Chanda thanked the delegation from MESTI and the NSTC for visiting the research chair as it provided an opportunity for his team to give an update on the research projects under ORTARChI. The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) board chairperson Prof: Sody Munsaka Mweetwa, led a delegation from the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) of Ghana to pay a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Technology and Science Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu.In his welcoming remarks Dr. Habeenzu expressed the ministry’s willingness and openness to further collaborations with Ghana, emphasizing that the visit presents a valuable opportunity for both countries to exchange knowledge and strengthen their existing relationship.During the visit to Zambia, the delegation from MESTI engaged with the NSTC to understand the day-to-day operations of a Science Granting Council and how NSTC's mandate is executed in Zambia.
